Over the coming months we’ll be introducing you to members of our Channel Events ‘TRIBE’. Like many other events organisations we simply couldn’t put on our awesome events without the help of committed volunteers. Our volunteer event staff have affectionately become known as the ‘TRIBE’. Each of our tribe members have been asked a series of questions and you’ll see the format when you read on. We hope you enjoy meeting the team and finding out why they get involved.

So, we’d love to introduce Alistair Caird. As a keen runner, not only does Alistair enter our events, but he also volunteers at them.  Sometimes he does both!   Come rain or shine, day or night, you’ll find Alistairs big smile encouraging our entrants around the course whether he’s running them himself or marshalling!  He’s a total legend!

So here are Alistairs answers to our mini questionaire:

Name: Alistair Caird

Age: 48

How and why did you become a Channel Events ‘TRIBE’ member? Had taken part in various races run by Channel Events and found then excellent and very well organised and all the people who were involved were very welcoming. I wanted to volunteer as I wanted to put something back into helping others have a great experience as I did.

Favourite Channel Event to work on and why?

Storm the Fort, as a Sweeper. Fantastic turn out for the event, it’s was excellent seeing the long trail of head torches heading up to the top and down to the Fort. Views all around were great. All entrants were very appreciative of our help.

Longest marshalling/volunteering shift?

Think this was the Man vs Moor event if you take into account the travelling time, it was a full day, but very much worth it. Exmoor is a fantastic location for races.

What is the best thing about marshalling/volunteering at a Channel Event

The Tribe Crew are a fantastic bunch, just love being part of a well organised and well supported events company.

Preferred form of encouragement for entrants, clap, cheer, shout etc?

All of the above as long as it is positive.

What is your essential piece of marshalling kit other than your Channel ‘TRIBE” member t-shirt?

Phone for photos

Brew of choice?

Hot Chocolate

Bacon roll or slice of cake?

Lemon Drizzle Cake
