Rather than bring in materials to build obstacles for our entrants to run, scramble and climb over, we’ve used the natural obstacles that the rugged Exmoor landscape has given us! Who better to challenge you than Mother Nature herself?!Although the course is fully marked, we have made sure that the markers are placed in a way not to detract from the wild beauty around you. You’re in the wilds and we want you to experience that in all its glory!
We chose this specific area, as it offers such a diverse landscape – Man vs Moor will see you scramble over rocky outcrops, crossing rivers, navigating remote terrain, heading underground and even do wild swimming! (if swimming is really not for you then you have the option to run around this bit if you need to!)
There are three distances available which you’ll choose at point of booking – you can run a 5k, 10k’ish (more like 11k!) or a 10 mile route. All will take you out of your comfort zone and challenge you whilst keeping you totally safe! You’ll be fully supported by our awesome marshals and Exmoor Search and Rescue Team are always on hand. As with all of our events, you can enter just yourself and know that you’ll not be on your own for long – we always keep our events small which fosters a great community feel and our marshals are super friendly and supportive. It’s also a great thing to do as a team! Get a gang of friends, family, club members or colleagues together – the more of you who enter at the same time, the bigger the discount! We promise you an experience you won’t forget!Classic – 10km ‘ish‘ (More like 7.5 miles)
- You’ll challenge your legs and lungs with a scramble over the Pinkery Pinnacles and the technical Short Combe Stumble.
- The Green Mile takes you from deep joy to deep bog before topping out near Chains Barrow.
- Fast and flowing technical moorland running takes you to the downhill section known as the Hoaroak Hiatus – a steady section of good trail where you can absorb your stunning surroundings.
- You’re Half Way! Exmoor’s breath-taking character is defined by the next section as you climb to Benjamy’s Ditch – views across the Bristol Channel to one side and remote wilderness to the other.
- The Ruckham Reaper takes your mind off it with a full body scramble back up onto the highest moor – and a ride on The Magic Carpet – before the Dash, Splash and Thrash across Pinkery Pond.
- The Total Blackout obstacle takes you into the last section, Breakneck Combe, before the finish line comes into sight…
Light – 5km of fun! This might be the light version on distance but it still packs a punch when it comes to fun!
This route still takes you through some of our classic natural obstacles; ‘Pinkery Pinnacles’, ‘Short Combe Stumble’, ‘Green Mile’, ‘Dash, Splash and Thrash’, Total Blackout and Breakneck Combe!
Ultimate – The 10 Miler! All of the awesome obstacles from the Classic but with a lap of the Light thrown in too! This means you’ll be doing the best obstacles twice!!
We’ve even got an event for the kids! Why not get them to take on the challenge too!Kids 1.5km! With your parents to escort you along the way you’ll start at Pinkery Pond taking on the Dash, Splash and Thrash, The Total Blackout and Breakneck Combe before making your way through the Pinkery Pipe and over the finish line.
Man vs Moor is part of the Exmoor Running and Walking Festival which takes place on 21st – 23rd June 2024. We have something for everyone to take part in on both days of the Festival too so why not make it a family weekend away and camp or stay in the Bunkhouse? If you’re camping and not entered into events on both days, we’d love you to come and join our volunteer TRIBE! We even have our distinctive orange t-shirts for mini TRIBE members!
