WOW! What a start to the year! The 2nd of our kayak events sold out in less than 2 days, we were awarded the top gold award for our first 2 events reviewed through Racecheck and we had our largest night run to date at Brean Down with Storm the Fort! We’re feeling very humbled and honoured! We understand we’re living in uncertain times at the moment and we really do appreciate your investment and trust in us at Channel Events. Thank you for supporting our small not for profit community interest company! We have another jam packed year for you all this year with what we hope will have something for everyone who loves being outdoors doing cool things in cool places with cool people!

THE DARK SKIES SERIES 2022/23
Thank you to all of you who have supported our Dark Skies Series.
We started the year with our biggest ever night run to date which took place at Brean Down in January. We’ve had 4 great events and the reviews that have come in have meant we’ve earned Gold Status for the 2 that we’ve submitted to be reviewed by RaceCheck! Thank you so much everyone! It means the world that you all love the events as much as we do!
Our Devon series hasn’t been as successful with its applicants and unfortunately we have had to cancel the last 2 due to lack of take up. I know those of you who entered were really disappointed with that decision and it’s not one we made lightly. We don’t run these events for profit, but equally, we can’t make a loss on them either. For those of you who didn’t enter, we’d love to know why so we can make changes for next year if needed! Feedback from previous years has been so amazing, we just need to understand why numbers were so low this time around.
Tickets for the 2023/24 Dark Skies Series go on sale on 1st April 2023! There may be some changes to the series following this years events, but if you’re keen to keep these events going, please book early otherwise they may not be here next year!
THE RETURN OF ONE FYNE NIGHT – 19TH AUGUST 2023
One Fyne Night, formerly part of the Dark Skies Series is making a comeback, but this time as a summer evening event!
We have a great route 5k for you around the beautiful Fyne Court Estate in the Quantock Hills AONB. The 5km course will take you around the parkland and woods before finishing in the main courtyard area. 2 laps are completed for the 10km option. This course is undulating but on good trails and tracks. Making your way around the estate, passing the church, through Broomfield Common, around the parkland and returning through the walled gardens and past the pond before finishing arms aloft as you cross the finish line!
Entries have now opened – click the link below to secure your place!
THE TRIPLE MOUNTAIN BIKE SERIES – JUNE, JULY & SEPTEMBER 2023
It’s great to see so many Triple bookings coming in! The Quantock Quake is always a popular end to the series and is almost 60% full already! Once one of the events are full, don’t forget the Triple will also be full so if you’re thinking of entering all 3, then please don’t hang about as our numbers are strictly limited!
The Mendip Murmuration – 10th June 2023.
The Exmoor Explorer – 9th July 2023
The Quantock Quake – 3rd September 2023
Each event is challenging, but we are all about getting more people more active more often, so it’s doable for all levels of mountain bikers. They are designed as challenges and not races, although you will receive times afterwards. EMTB’s are very welcome!
We have very basic camping available for each event, so why not bring some supporters and make a weekend of it?!
It’s our 10th Quantock Quake – we’d love to see you all there to celebrate with us around the campfire!
THE EXMOOR RUNNING AND WALKING FESTIVAL – 23RD TO 25TH JUNE 2023
This is such a great weekend to be part of and we’re really proud of it! Whether you’re a runner or a walker this is for you!
The weekend kicks off on Friday night with a sunset swim at Pinkery Pond.
The Exmoor Perambulation takes place on the Saturday and this historic course can be completed as a long distance walk (30 or 15 miles), run as an Ultra Marathon (30 miles), run as a wild trail run (15 miles) or completed as a family (3 miles). The event is self navigated so you’d need to be a competent map reader.
The day finishes with a guest speaker and a social around the campfire!
Man vs Moor takes on the challenge of the Moor and completes the weekend on the Sunday. Using the natural obstacles of the landscape you’ll run, scramble and take a short swim across Pinkery Pond – again we have multiple distances for you: 5k, 10k, 10 miles and a 1.5k kids run!
You can choose to take part in both days or just one!
If you’re there for the weekend and not doing both events, why not volunteer to help with the one you haven’t entered? You’ll find details of how to volunteer at the bottom of the page.
Basic camping and bunkhouse accommodation (limited availability) is available on site and is bookable through our website – early booking is advisable, especially for the bunkhouse.
MINEHEAD TRIATHLON – 8TH OCTOBER 2023
Registration for the Minehead Triathlon opened at midday on 1st February and it’s been fantastic to see entries coming in.
It’s a great way to end the triathlon season in such a picturesque setting! If you don’t want to take on all 3 elements of the event, why not join as a relay team and split it between you?
There are some great campsites that are still open and guesthouses in the area so why not stay and explore this beautiful part of the country too?

Let’s make the rest of this year a smash hit!
COMMUNITY PROJECT ALERT!
What an incredible day we had on 26th February at the National Trust’s Arlington Court!
We teamed up with the National Trust collaborated to plant 106 Mazzard (Wild Cherry) trees on the Arlington Court Estate in North Devon. These wild cherry trees are a native to North Devon and date back to medieval times where they would have been plentiful and a good source of food. With numbers dwindling in modern times, Josse and his team at Arlington Court wanted to help maintain numbers of these beautiful trees by creating a brand new orchard of 5 different varieties. It is hoped with a second plant at some point in the near future that this will become the biggest Mazzard orchard in North Devon. Such an exciting project to be part of and it was fantastic to see over 30 Tribe members all ages come out to help. Really fantastic to see the little ones getting involved and excited about the project and nature too!
We are really looking forward to returning year on year to see this orchard develop and in time hopefully they’ll produce plenty of fruit to produce a lovely wild cherry jam!
As a community interest company, we have our running, cycling, walking, triathlon and sea kayaking communities to support but we are also driven to support the geographic communities where our events take place and this was the first of hopefully many tree planting projects across Somerset and North Devon.
MEDAL/FINISHERS MOMENTO PACKS
In our bid to keep our prices the same as last year, be more sustainable and waste free, we made the decision this year to keep our medals and t-shirts as a separate purchase from your entry. From feedback received last year, some of you also didn’t want the bling so this means that we only order exactly what we need. We also moved to a square medal so that there’s less waste production too! If you don’t want to hang them up and show them off then use the lanyard for your office pass and the medal is the perfect size to be used as a coaster!
CHANNEL EVENTS / FLANCI ACTIVEWEAR
We love a bit of merch and we know you do too! Last year we teamed up with the fabulous Jan Olive and Flanci Activewear to bring you our own Channel Events Warrior and Tribe range of shorts, leggings and skorts! It’s super comfortable, really eye catching and even has a variety of pockets! It’s been amazing seeing photos of you all around the country showing off our gear!
If you haven’t got your yet, click the link below! We’d love you to tag us @channeleventsuk on your socials!
SNAP LOCK BIB CLIPS
We have been single use plastic free for quite a few years now and we’ve been looking at ways to be even more sustainable. With this in mine, we have decided to not dishing out safety pins at each event to attach your bib numbers.
Please be upstanding for our recycled plastic, reusable snap lock bib clips! They are going down a storm so far! They’re ideal for the wetter weathers too as they don’t put a hole in your waterproof jackets! You can buy them online, or at our events.
We’re currently working on a reusable collapsible cup too which will be available at our events, but in the meantime, please don’t forget to bring a drinking vessel to fill at our water stations!
JOIN OUR TRIBE!
If you’d like to get involved but don’t want to enter, we’d love to have you with us as part of our TRIBE of volunteers!
As a thank you, you’ll receive an on the day breakfast and a cuppa voucher along with our distinctive orange technical t-shirts!
If you’ve entered but have family and friends coming to support you, why not get them involved too! Just email firstname.lastname@example.org or click the button below to join our facebook group!
We’re looking forward to seeing you all on those start lines!
