Somerset Wildlife Trust is one of 46 Wildlife Trusts working across the UK. They are a science-led movement focused on restoring habitats to support a wide range of wildlife and restore natural processes that are essential for healthy landscapes, and provide vital services such as clean air and water, food, carbon absorption and flood alleviation. The majority of their work is made possible through the support of their members and people who live and work in the county who choose to make donations, fundraise for us or leave generous legacies. For more than 40 years St Margaret’s Hospice Care has been helping patients, families and carers across Somerset facing a life-limiting illness. Their Sunflower Day Centres provide support for patients who are well enough to live at home but would like to take advantage of the specialist support St Margaret’s can offer during the day. They also offer a family support service, a 24 hour advice line and have specialist nursing Community Team provide care across the whole of Somerset! 100% of the care and support they provide is free of charge to patients and their families at the point of service. They rely on a number of income streams such as donations to fund the vital end of life care that St Margaret’s Hospice provides.
The Exmoor Search and Rescue Team provides specialist Mountain Rescue services across large parts of Devon and Somerset. They assist the Police in locating lost or missing persons, and the Ambulance Service to recover the injured or ill from remote locations. They are made up entirely of highly skilled volunteer members. Team members are on call 365 days a year, 24 hours a day. Skilled and equipped for Search, Pre-Hospital Medical Care, Technical Rope and Water Rescue. Their operational area covers remote rural locations including Exmoor National Park and the Quantock Hills as well as urban areas such as Taunton & Barnstaple. They work closely with Avon & Somerset Police, Devon & Cornwall Police, South Western Ambulance Service NHS Trust and HM Coastguard. They are members of Mountain Rescue (England and Wales) and Peninsula Mountain & Cave Rescue Association (PenMaCRA). The ES&RT are a charitable organisation and receive no government funding.
Founded in 1975, The Avon and Somerset Search and Rescue Team are an Emergency Service staffed entirely by volunteers who are “On Standby” 365 days a year, 24 hours a day in any weather, night or day. They are the chosen external search and rescue resouce for the Avon and Somerset Police, covering the whole of Avon and Somerset – 1855sq miles! This is a charity funded by donation, staffed and run by unpaid dedicated volunteers.
Alongside the adhoc donations that our entrants chose to give, is the ability to set up a Just Giving page so that you can raise money for these charities by taking part in one of our events! If you have a charity close to your heart that you’d like to raise money for, as long as they’re registered with Just Giving then you can set up a donation page when you register!Each year, the Somerset Wildlife Trust have entries into some of our events, such as the Exmoor Perambulation, Man vs Moor and the Minehead Triathlon and their supporters fundraise for the charity via their Just Giving Pages!

“Somerset Wildlife Trust are proud charity partners of Channel Events – thanks to their great range of inclusive events aimed at getting people outdoors and active, our fundraisers have been able to raise a fantastic £13,686 in vital funds to protect and restore our wildlife and wild places here in Somerset. Since 2021, we’ve had participants running, walking, scrambling and swimming for wildlife at the Exmoor Perambulation, Man vs Moor, Moonlit Meadow Run and Minehead Triathlon, with many coming back for more. We choose to work with Channel Events because of their excellent environmental policies, top notch organisation, enthusiastic marshals and the friendly “it’s not about winning” atmosphere of their wonderful challenges.
